Penelope Roskell is available to give consultations to pianists experiencing tension or injury. Please contact Penelope directly here
During the initial consultation Penelope will take a brief history (any medical reports can be useful) and discuss possible causes of your current problems. She will then assess which elements of technique or practice methods need to be addressed most urgently and teach some relevant exercises. She may also refer you to specific resources, such as sections from The Complete Pianist.
Where necessary, Penelope may suggest a follow-up session (60 mins) or refer you to the BAPAM clinic.
British Association for Performing Arts Medicine
Penelope also runs a Pianists’ Clinic (currently online) for the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine.
Professional pianists with injuries can be seen jointly by Penelope Roskell and hand surgeon Mr Mark Phillips at the BAPAM Pianists’ Clinic. The consultation is free, but you will need an initial referral from either Penelope Roskell or Mr Phillips. Penelope and Mark work together to provide the best possible advice on ways forward (medical and pianistic) to achieve recovery.
To make an initial appointment with Mr Phillips, contact BAPAM direct on 0207 404 8444.
